Jennifer Campagnolo & Mallory Peters BScN RN CHPCN(c)
Episode Date: Wednesday October 1, 2025
What happens when a palliative care emergency occurs at home? How can families feel more confident and supported in those moments? In this episode of Radical Nurse Talk, host Patricia Strachan speaks with two nurses who are helping to answer those questions through the creation of the Be Prepared guides. These resources are designed to help family caregivers recognize and manage emergencies, reduce unnecessary hospital visits, and ease the suffering of patients and their loved ones.
Joining Patricia are Jennifer Campagnolo and Mallory Peters, both of whom bring deep experience in palliative care from very different perspectives. Jennifer is the Project ECHO Home and Community Care Lead at the Canadian Home Care Association, where she develops and coordinates programs focused on home-based palliative care, integrated seniors care, and support for personal care providers. With a background that spans acute and community health, primary care, and public health in both Canada and the United Kingdom, she is dedicated to ensuring that people have access to high quality care in the place they call home.
Mallory Peters is a Registered Nurse certified in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing Canada (CHPCN(C) who has devoted her career to supporting patients and families through end-of-life care. She is a Palliative Care Coordinator with Health PEI, where she provides pain and symptom management and works closely with the Integrated Palliative Care Program. Based in rural communities, Mallory helps ensure that patients and their families receive comfort and support that allows them to live fully until the end of life.
Throughout the conversation, Jennifer and Mallory explain how the Be Prepared Guides give families the language, knowledge, and reassurance they need when a crisis arises. By encouraging proactive conversations and offering practical steps, these guides help caregivers navigate difficult situations while respecting the wishes of those receiving care.
This episode is both practical and inspiring, showing how thoughtful resources and compassionate nursing can transform the experience of patients and families living with chronic, progressive, and life-limiting illness. The Be Prepared guides are more than just information, they are a way to bring calm, dignity, and confidence to moments that otherwise feel overwhelming.
