Sandra Lauck

Sandra Lauck, PhD, RN, FCAN, FAAN, FESC

Episode Date: Wednesday April 3, 2024

How can nurses be involved in decisions that patients make about innovative heart valve interventions for which they may be eligible? In this episode Dr. Sandra Lauck thoughtfully describes her work and that of others in supporting nurses to have opportunities and language that open spaces for patients to question, understand and consider possible therapies. In this way she offers radical possibilities for all nurses to transform patient experience, not only in cardiac care, but in any practice setting.

Dr. Lauck holds the St. Paul’s Hospital Professorship in Cardiovascular Nursing at the University of British Columbia. She is an associate professor at the UBC School of Nursing, a UBC Knowledge Exchange & Mobilization Scholar and holds a joint appointment as clinician scientist at St. Paul’s Hospital and Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist Lead at Providence Health Care.

Sandra leads a program of research focused on improving outcomes and experiences of people with cardiovascular disease, optimizing care processes and delivery models to accelerate the uptake of contemporary evidence, and the advancement of nursing practice. She is committed to linking clinical practice, policy and scholarship through active engagement with patients, families, clinicians, and government organizations in all aspects of her research program.

Sandra is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing, the American Academy of Nursing, and the European Society of Cardiology.
